English desk

English-speaking accounting firm in Thailand

We keep Thai statutory books and file every return in Thai, then report and correspond with you in English. Monthly bookkeeping, VAT, withholding tax, payroll, year-end closing and audit liaison for foreign-owned companies across Thailand. Fees are quoted in writing after we see your documents — nothing is published as a fixed price, because volume and prior-year condition decide the work.

What the English desk covers

Statutory work is unchanged; the difference is that every output has an English counterpart, so an owner or an overseas parent company can review the position without a translator in the loop.

Monthly bookkeeping with an English ledger summary

Thai-standard ledger entries, bank reconciliation for every account, and a one-page English summary of revenue, cost, cash movement and outstanding items so the owner can act on the month without reading Thai worksheets.

VAT and withholding tax filings

PP.30 output and input VAT prepared from the tax invoice set, PP.53 and PP.3 for services and rent, plus a check that each input VAT claim is supported by a compliant tax invoice rather than a receipt.

Payroll and social security

Monthly payslips, PND.1 withholding on employment income, the social security contribution schedule, and English payroll registers for head-office reporting.

Year-end closing and audit liaison

Closing schedules, fixed asset register, accrual and prepayment support, and direct handling of the auditor's queries so the owner is not translating between the CPA and the finance team.

Corporate income tax returns

PND.51 half-year estimate prepared from actual results rather than a guess, and the annual PND.50 reconciled to the audited statements with the tax adjustment schedule explained in English.

Revenue Department correspondence

When an inquiry letter arrives, we translate the request, assemble the evidence file and reply in Thai, keeping the owner informed of what was asked and what was submitted.

How the engagement runs

  1. 1. Document review before any fee is discussed

Send one representative month — sales invoices, purchase invoices, bank statements, payroll register. We count transactions, check VAT registration status and look at the prior year filings. This tells us the real workload instead of guessing from company size.

  2. 2. Written scope and quote

You receive a scope listing each recurring filing, the reporting package, the response time for questions, and the fee. Because it is written, you can compare it against another firm line by line rather than comparing two headline numbers.

  3. 3. Opening balance reconciliation

For a handover we reconcile the trial balance at the transfer date first. Fixed assets, VAT suspense, director loans and unremitted withholding are the four accounts where inherited errors usually sit.

  4. 4. Monthly cycle

Documents in by an agreed date, filings prepared and submitted before the statutory deadline, and an English management summary once the month is closed.

  5. 5. Year end and audit

Closing schedules are prepared to the auditor's expected format, the CPA's queries are answered directly, and the audited statements are filed with the DBD after the shareholders' meeting.

Deadlines and filing formats change. Confirm current requirements with the Revenue Department, the Social Security Office and the Department of Business Development, or ask us to confirm them for your case before you rely on a date.

Common situations we are hired for

A new Thai subsidiary of a foreign group

Chart of accounts mapped to the group's reporting lines from day one, so consolidation does not require rebuilding the Thai ledger every quarter.

A company whose Thai accountant resigned

We take custody of the filing history, restore the e-filing access and close the open months before the next deadline rather than after it.

A business that grew past the VAT threshold

VAT registration, tax invoice format, input VAT evidence discipline and the first PP.30 cycle set up together, because a late registration is assessed retroactively.

Books that were never really kept

Back-year cleanup: rebuild the ledger from bank statements and invoices, quantify exposure on unfiled periods, then decide the order of correction with the owner.

Questions foreign owners ask first

What does an English-speaking accounting firm in Thailand actually deliver?
The statutory output is identical to any Thai firm: monthly bookkeeping in Thai baht, VAT return PP.30 by the 15th of the following month, withholding returns PP.53 and PP.3, half-year corporate income tax PND.51, annual PND.50 within 150 days of the financial year end, and financial statements filed with the Department of Business Development within one month of the shareholders' meeting. What differs is the working layer around it: your ledger explanations, management reports, audit queries and Revenue Department correspondence are summarised in English so the owner or overseas head office can review them without a translator.
Do the filings themselves have to be in Thai?
Yes. Every return submitted to the Revenue Department, the Social Security Office and the Department of Business Development is prepared and filed in Thai, and the audited financial statements are signed by a Thai CPA. English is the reporting and communication language, not the filing language. A firm that promises English-language statutory filings is describing something that does not exist.
Which documents does a foreign-owned company need to hand over each month?
Sales tax invoices issued, purchase tax invoices received, bank statements for every account, payroll registers, receipts for cash expenses, and copies of any withholding tax certificates issued to suppliers. If you use Xero, QuickBooks or a POS system, an exported ledger file works as the base and we reconcile it against the Thai tax invoice set, because only a compliant Thai tax invoice supports an input VAT claim.
Can you take over from our previous Thai accountant mid-year?
Yes, and mid-year handovers are common. The transfer needs the prior year audited statements, the trial balance at the handover date, the VAT and withholding filing history, the DBD filing receipts and the e-filing credentials. We reconcile the opening balances before touching the current period, because inherited errors in fixed assets, VAT suspense accounts and director loan balances are the items that surface later during audit.
How is BOI or foreign-shareholder status handled in the books?
A BOI-promoted company keeps promoted and non-promoted revenue and expenses separated in the chart of accounts so the exempt profit can be proven line by line. A company with foreign shareholders under the Foreign Business Act must keep the shareholder register and capital evidence consistent with what was filed at registration. Both requirements are bookkeeping design decisions, so they are set up at the start of the engagement rather than reconstructed at year end.
What are the deadlines a foreign owner is most likely to miss?
The VAT return on the 15th, withholding returns on the 7th of the following month, social security contributions on the 15th, PND.51 within two months after the first six months of the accounting year, and the annual audited accounts filed with the DBD after the shareholders' meeting, which itself must be held within four months of the year end. Late filing triggers surcharge and penalty calculated on the tax due, so the practical cost of a missed month is rarely zero.
How much does it cost?
We do not publish a price list, because the workload depends on transaction volume, number of bank accounts, VAT registration status, headcount on payroll and whether the prior year is clean. Send a description of your company and a recent month of documents and you receive a written scope and fee in return. Nothing is charged for the review itself.
Do you handle legal work such as litigation or notarisation?
No. This firm is accounting and tax only. Litigation, contract disputes, criminal record checks and notarial services are handled by the separate law practice at tla.co.th, and we refer those matters there rather than taking them on here.
